Ask a plumber online: what you can solve with photos, and what needs a visit
Plenty of plumbing problems don't need a truck in your driveway to figure out. A few clear photos and a good description are often enough for an experienced plumber to tell you what's going on, whether it's a DIY fix, and what a fair price looks like if you do need someone.
Problems that are often solvable online
- Running or weak-flushing toilets — usually a flapper, fill valve, or chain issue.
- Dripping faucets — cartridge, washer, or O-ring, depending on the faucet type.
- Water heater questions — no hot water, rumbling, leaking from the relief valve, pilot issues, age and replacement timing.
- Slow drains — figuring out whether it's one fixture or the main line.
- Under-sink leaks — supply lines, P-traps, and shutoff valves.
- Reviewing a plumber's quote before you agree to it.
When you need someone there now
- You smell gas near a gas water heater or appliance — leave and call the gas utility.
- Water is spreading and you can't stop it — shut off the main water valve first.
- Sewage is backing up into tubs or floor drains.
- Water is near electrical outlets, panels or appliances.
Tip: find your main water shutoff before you need it. It's usually where the line enters the house — in a garage, utility closet, or near the water heater — and sometimes in a box near the street.
What to send for the best answer
- A wide photo showing where the problem is.
- A close-up of the leak, part or damage.
- For water heaters: a photo of the data plate (brand, model, serial, and gas or electric).
- How long it's been happening and anything that changed recently.
- Any quote or invoice you've already been given.

Free forums can be great, but answers come from strangers, may take days, and often disagree. A paid review gets you one accountable answer from someone with hands-on trade experience, based on your photos, within a set time — and a straight recommendation on whether to DIY it or hire it out.
Common questions
Can a plumber really diagnose a problem from photos?
Many common problems, yes: toilets, faucets, visible leaks, water heater issues, and quote reviews. Hidden problems inside walls or under slabs may still need someone on site with tools, and a good reviewer will tell you when that's the case.
How fast will I get an answer?

What does it cost?
A flat $21.99 per submission, paid once through Gumroad. No subscription.
Do you cover gas leaks or emergencies?
No. If you smell gas, leave the house and call your gas utility or 911. For active flooding, shut off your main water valve and call a local plumber.
